Hearing Institute

The audiology clinics at Micha centers in Haifa and Tiberia have been operating for many years.

These clinics are recognized by the Ministry of Health as unique in the field of pediatric audiology (early childhood) in the Haifa and Northern Districts.

Our experienced audiology team specializes in the auditory rehabilitation of infants and children aged 0 to 6, providing comprehensive support for them and their families throughout the entire auditory rehabilitation process.

In general, every infant in Israel undergoes a hearing screening at the hospital shortly after birth (since 2011). If the screening test raises any suspicion of hearing impairment, the infant is referred for further testing and required to undergo an ABR (Auditory Brainstem Response) test.

The infant and their family will be referred to Micha based on the results for further evaluation, counseling, guidance, and, of course, to begin treatment and rehabilitation.

The audiology team will assess hearing impairments, including:

  • Sensory-neural

  • Mixed

  • Permanent conductive hearing loss of various types

Hearing impairment can be bilateral (in both ears) or unilateral (in one ear).

It is also important to note that our clinic provides services to children integrated into other rehabilitative frameworks outside of Micha, especially those with late-onset hearing loss or those identified at a later stage.

Upon your first visit to Micha, we will hold an introductory meeting with you, involving our multidisciplinary team. During the meeting, we will conduct an initial behavioral hearing test for your child, comparing the findings with previous tests you may have conducted (screening tests, ABR tests, ENT exams, behavioral tests, and any other supporting medical documents).

Immediately after the test, we will share the latest results, provide advice, and begin the treatment and rehabilitation process, which includes regular audiological monitoring with periodic hearing tests and the fitting of the appropriate hearing aid (hearing aid, bone-anchored device, cochlear implant).

  • The pediatric audiology clinics at Micha centers in Haifa and Tiberias work closely with the implant centers at Rambam, Bnei Zion, and Poriya hospitals.

  • Our audiology team maintains ongoing communication with child development clinics, particularly to gather professional opinions regarding the best integration options for the infant and to develop an individualized rehabilitation plan tailored to their needs.

  • The accumulated practical experience of our audiology team brings students from communication disorders programs at various universities for educational visits to Micha, allowing them to specialize in pediatric audiology.
